Catalogue Raisonné

Since December 2006, the Arshile Gorky Foundation has been compiling a database of Gorky’s paintings, sculptures, and works on paper. This database updates Jim M. Jordan and Robert Goldwater’s The Paintings of Arshile Gorky: A Critical Catalogue (1982) and builds upon the research archive of the late Gorky scholar Melvin P. Lader. To better suit this type of scholarship, the Foundation’s database will be published as an online catalogue raisonné. Unlike traditional printed publications, this web-based format will allow us to revise information as new data comes to light, such as changes in ownership and additions to exhibition and bibliography histories. The Foundation plans to upload the first group of completed catalogue entries in the coming months. For the time being, a sample entry is available by clicking the “Works on Paper” tab.
Please see the Missing Works and Auctioned Works pages for the paintings and drawings that we are trying to locate.
